The biggest problem with WhatsApp would be the ever increasing number of groups on it and the members.

A large amount of people all compressed into one group is a recipe for chaos, spamming, and a just haywire situation where you are getting 100+ messages within a few minutes or an hour.

While groups certainly have their uses and are quite important, there definitely needed to be a way to control the data and information being shared on the group.

The latest update on WhatsApp though is working to give the admin(s) more control over what and how much of the content is being put up on the group.

With this update, the admin(s) of a particular group can choose to be the only one(s) sending messages and restrict the other members from sending any of theirs.

What Is The Update and How To Use It?

WhatsApp posted a blog post on Friday that said that,

“Today, we’re launching a new group setting where only admins are able to send messages to a group. One way people use groups is to receive important announcements and information, including parents and teachers at schools, community centers, and non-profit organizations. We’ve introduced this new setting so admins can have better tools for these use cases.”

What this does is turn the group into a one-way broadcast where the members will not be able to reply or send any of their own new messages until the setting is changed back to ‘All Participants’.

The update is pretty simple, and to use it you just need to follow the steps as given:

#1. Go the group you are admin of

#2. Tap the name of the group once you are inside

#3. Click on the option of ‘Group Settings’

#4. In there you will see an option of ‘Send Messages’ click on it

#5.  Select the ‘only admins’ for who can send messages on the group

There are a number of various other ways that admins are given more control such in the ‘Edit group Info’ section, you can select whether to let anyone change the group name, description, icon and such or limit it only to the admins.

You can even edit admins and add or remove people as per your convenience.

Finally Relief From Spam Messages

The thing is that WhatsApp groups were never meant to become this cauldron of fake news, spam messages, and ridiculous fights that usually erupt in most groups over the most trivial of things.

Groups were merely a place to collect a lot of people and pass out any important information like class schedules, important project details, etc.

A lot of people use WhatsApp groups to stay connected to certain societies, like schools have groups to pass around critical notices and data about what is happening at the school.

Or for that matter, college students have their own WhatsApp groups that even has the teacher in it so that they can send relevant reading material, any change in the class timing and etc.

But currently, we are seeing that WhatsApp groups are becoming this breeding ground of all things useless and take attention away from the main purpose of the group.

This update thus, comes at the perfect time and could help to make WhatsApp groups a cleaner and systematic place.
