With the FIFA World Cup 2018 just a few months away and the European club football season in its final stretch, now is a fair time to decide as to which signings have been great and which have been, well… average at best and how they qualify to be included in the list of worst transfers of 2017.

Let’s take a look at these apparently unsuccessful players this season and analyze which of them are likely/unlikely to get a national team call-up for the World Cup in Russia.

But before that, a little heads up: In our list (arranged in no particular order), we won’t be including any winter transfers for the 2017-18 season. Instead, we’ll only be focusing on the summer transfers made to weigh things on a fair metric, considering that every player needs time to adapt to a new team.

So even after some largely mediocre performances, we won’t be mentioning the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Ross Barkley or Virgil van Dijk in our list (we also don’t guarantee if they’ll make it to this list next season. Haha!).
