In this Gen Z era, if you don’t have an active love life and you are not someone who prefers staying single, you are most likely to have an account on a dating app like Tinder. Although you might end up being judged by your social peers for your habit of swiping right, it’s quite admirable of you to put any effort into your dating life.
At the same time, it’s equally okay if you are looking for a relationship, fling or a hookup on these online dating sites. It’s 2020, for god’s sake, no judgments here.
That being said, here is a list of things you need to stop doing on your dating profile on tinder.
Let’s start with the basics – your bio is not your resume.
It doesn’t matter which school you passed out from or which 9 jobs you had in the past because it’s not your resume. Period.
Yes, you can write about your latest achievement or a major one to show off, but your bio is supposed to be a short introduction about yourself. Stress on the word short, keep it crisp, write something witty (not a pick-up line), and most importantly write something that can help someone start a conversation with. At least this way people can find reasons and ways to start a conversation with you.
2. Pictures on dating profile
There are a lot of things people get wrong about this, which leads to left swipes instead of right. Well first, please don’t put up group photos in your profile. It’s confusing when it comes to figuring out who you are amidst the crowd of 4-5 people. And most importantly, you don’t want your ‘swipes’ to confuse your better-looking friend for you. That can end in a disappointment and a disaster, which you definitely wouldn’t want to face.
Secondly, don’t fill up your profile with photos of your cute pup. That’s not fair. Yes, that furry beast is adorable but you don’t want him to be the reason why someone would want to date you.
Finally and most importantly- no ‘dick pics’. Even if you are looking for hookups or a casual one night stand, make sure that your camera avoids your genitals. No woman in the history of dating has ever been impressed by images of ‘unsolicited dick pics’. They are most likely to be disgusted and contrary to your expectations would swipe left.

3. Conversation starter
It’s quite smooth and impressive if you can pull off a pick up line. While it can be amusing for some, you can often fall short if that pick-up line is clichéd and the replies that you follow up with ain’t equally amusing.
So, it’s always better if you come up with something of your own so you know what to type next. If you want to play it safe, you can always ask something about their bio. After all, who doesn’t like when you show interest in knowing them.
4. Conversation attitude
Although it’s completely ok to have an indifferent personality, but being rude to a stranger for no reason is never appreciated. If you have no interest in continuing the conversation, you can always bid goodbye, but just because you have multiple ‘matches’ chatting with you, it doesn’t mean you can be rude to someone to you boost your ego. Remember, you swiped right too.
It doesn’t take much to be polite.
5. Be frank
It is 2020. Everyone has their own preferences and lifestyle. Be straightforward about your choices. It is understandable if you are not in the mental space to be in a mushy, romantic relationship, but looking for something casual instead. It’s ok if your match is creeping you out with ‘#couplegoals’ chats while the reason you are here on tinder is because you were looking for some hookup dates.
It’s ok. But, if you are clear about your preferences, it’s better if you tell it to them before things move forward. This way neither you end up hurting someone nor you waste someone’s time.
6. Dating profile, not a social media account
Although most unsuccessful dates and matches do end up being good friends, it surely can’t be the primary reason why you sign up on a dating app, right? I mean, if you are looking to make new friends, you can try other social networking sites like Facebook or Instagram, but a dating app isn’t exactly meant for that.
