In Sports, history is made every day. Here are the top stories of the past week:

Tennis: After the US Open glory, in a moment of weakness, the Indian Tennis team lost the Davis Cup World Group Playoff against Czech Republic. The package of 5 matches was full of surprising victories and shocking defeats, the biggest of them being the loss of the doubles pair of Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna.

Football: We are into week 7 of the Barclays English Premier League and Manchester United has inched past Manchester City to sit at the top of the table. They have 16 points on the board, in comparison to City’s 15. Westham currently stands third and Arsenal fourth, both with 13 points each. Chelsea, at the 16th spot, is still trying to find their footing in the league (pun intended).

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney celebrates scoring during the Barclays Premier League match at Old Trafford, Manchester.

Cricket: Starting Friday, 2nd October, the Indian cricket team will be taking on South Africa in a 72-day tour dedicated to Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi. The tour comprises of 3 T20s, 5 ODIs and 4 Test matches in that order. Playing games in all three formats will give both teams an opportunity to move their way up in the ICC rankings. This coupled with the big names and abundance of talent on both sides will not disappoint cricket fans.
