Piers Morgan Trolled For Mocking Indian Performance At Olympics: Is It Right?

-

Piers Morgan is Britain’s icon, an inspiration to the youth and the popular Brit in the world today.

He is known to judge ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ since forever because nobody else will.

Yes, Piers Morgan is that unwanted or is at least to India.

Morgan recently had the privilege to be trolled on Twitter harshly.

His crime was a simple tweet he made on India celebrating its Olympic victory. Morgan wrote, “Country with 1.2 billion people wildly celebrates 2 losing medals. How embarrassing is that?” and what followed after was merciless and unforgiving twitter-style-bashing.

Morgan followed his first tweet with another of the same sort. It said, “1,200,000,000 people and not a single Gold medal at the Olympics? Come on India, this is shameful. Put the bunting away & get training.”

The Punishment!

Morgan was trolled black and blue by the twitter force.

Morgan’s interview skills were compared to diapers. Noted personalities like Virender Sehwag, Shane Warne, and Chetan Bhagat gave stern replies to Morgan but it looked like Morgan was hell-bent on proving his point.

His replies were crude and offensive. Morgan went a step ahead when he uploaded a picture of him wearing a gold medal (as if that was needed!).

But this twitter war is not as useless as we want it to be. Morgan was bashed because he is a foreigner and lacks manners. But was he wrong in writing what he did?

Winning a medal at the Olympics is not a child’s play and India breeds some of the best athletes in the world who successfully deliver in the National Games yet on the international level, fail. Why so?

Well, the answer to it is not concrete because the causes are many but a significant factor is the lack of concern of the authorities.

An athlete when performing on international stage needs state-of-the-art facilities and proper care. O.P. Jaisha’s statement blaming ‘Indian officials and her coach for her loss has brought to the light the sorry state in which these players are kept.

Not just Morgan but the world noticed that India’s performance in this Olympics. The faltering standards of athletes, lack of concern on the part of the officials and the hasty cover up by the countrymen at home was enough to prove that India is failing to keep up with the world when it comes to sports.

You may ridicule Morgan for commenting but he was not really wrong in saying that India can and should produce more athletes. He ain’t the first one to say so its his mannerism and masochistic attitude that bugged all.

If Sindhu’s performance was to be compared then it is important to note that Sindhu trains in Gopichand’s Academy and not in any government facilitated Sports Facility and this fact speaks enough about the deteriorating standards of Indian sports.

So while we justify why people like Piers Morgan cannot speak ill about us it is about time we introspect instead of waging virtual wars against insignificant tweets from pseudo-journalists.

And Mr. Morgan should be taught to mind his own business!
