More Power To The 4 Indian Women On The Forbes’ ‘Most Powerful’ List

When Forbes’ released it’s list of ‘100 Most Powerful Women of 2016’ it brought forth a great cause of happiness to the country. The Indian women had yet again, made us proud. Four Indian ladies made it to the list. This is the first time that the list has featured more than two Indian names.

Arundhati Bhattacharya who heads The State Bank of India was ranked 25th on the list. Following her was Chanda Kochhar who is the Managing Director of ICICI Bank, India’s largest private sector bank. Chanda is also the youngest Indian to be a part of this prestigious list.

Not surprising was the presence of Kiran Mazumdar Shaw who was ranked 77th in the list. Kiran Shaw, a veteran to these lists has been a part of ‘India’s Richest List’ since 2010. Shobhana Bhartia rounded up Indian presence being placed 93rd on the list. Shobhana Bhartia manages HT Media Pvt. Ltd. featured on the list for the first time.

The presence of two ladies from the banking sector speaks volumes of the growing strength of Indian Economic strength.

The German Chancellor Angela Merkel topped the list again. The list was divided into seven portfolios which included billionaires, business, finance, media, politics, philanthropists, NGOs, and technology.

Most women belonged to the field of venture capitalism followed by politics. The list was released on 6th of June and not surprisingly, maximum entries were from United States. Indian entries this year was unlike previous years because no politician made it to the list.

People were quick to point out the absence of top-notch female leaders from the list. Nonetheless, the list has brought joyous news to the country and we hope that they will soon be at the helm of these rankings.
