Is Your Love For Meat Melting Icebergs & Hurting The Climate? Let’s See How

-

By Preeti Kumari

Are you a meat lover? Don’t worry we are not writing this to change your opinion on the recent “ban trend” of meats. Neither is it my intolerant behavior that is forcing me to suppress your right to choose. You have your fundamental rights intact. Period.

This article is only a result of growing concern towards the environment and the urge to preserve it.

Failure of climate change mitigation and adaptation – is one of the primary factor identified in the global risk factors 2016. And consuming meat aggravates it.

So, if you are an environment sensitive person then it will be easier for me to convince you, otherwise read it, you might change your mind.

The trade-off effect:

b

Ever imagined that you might be the reason for the ever increasing share of world hunger? Yes, it is so. Agricultural production is already strained due to growing population and irregular climate conditions (and both seems to be out of our *control*). And maintenance of animals requires 10 times more grains than that required for humans. So, continued growth in meat output creates competition for grain between meat-eaters and poor (so much competition). This is similar to do the cost-benefit analysis you do before spending a penny on your girlfriend/boyfriend. Think rationally!

Water, water everywhere not a drop to drink!

c

Water scarcity is another issue around the globe. Only if people were a little less dumb, they would understand that a reckless attitude like leaving taps open leads to wastage of water (don’t take it personally, though). And the rise in the demand for water-intensive animal products does not help to cool it down.

Meat is not green

All the sort of climate changes ranging from the effect of global warming to the cause of pollution are directly or indirectly related to factory farming. The United Nations has concluded that factory farming is one of the biggest contributors to world’s most serious problem from local to global. And the solution is very simple – remember that the meat is not green (quite literally!).

And it is not about environment’s health only, reducing meat in your diet will help reduce the fat. This will also help in cutting down on your expenditure. Well, this seems like a whole package with numerous benefits, absolutely free, free and free.

In vitro meat

But, if even now you are not able to give up on your love for meat, then we have a solution. Well, everything is possible. Just like producing babies in vitro i.e., artificial babies, artificial meat is getting ready for a showdown in the market.

Just a small change in habit can drive the world towards its goal of sustainable development. This is the opportunity to be the change maker. You can take it or leave it.
