Man United 0 – 0 Burnley : United Strike 37 Shots But Burnley’s Defence Proves To Be Resolute To Grab A Point

-

Man United created a host of chances (no short than 37) and yet failed to convert any. Burnley took a valuable point with a stunning performance defensively.

The match started with Man United planting the foot on the gas right at the 25 second mark when Zlatan Ibrahimovic forced the Burnley keeper into a save.

Burnley tried hard to penetrate the United back line but were unable to do so as it was United again who threatened after a calm period of about 15 min when it was Ibrahimovic again who was one on one with the Burnley keeper Heaton and was yet again denied.

It was again in the 43rd minute when after spurning an array of chances, another opportunity was wasted by Man United as Lingard’s header was saved by Heaton who was so far having the game of his life.

And before halftime, it was the 100-million Pound man Pogba who forced the Burnley keeper for a save from a 30-yard strike.

It was again in the 56th minute when United threatened as it was Mata who forced the keeper into a save from 12 yards out after combining with Ibrahimovic. United were visibly frustrated and the Burnley defence was relentless.

Ibra tried the spectacular to put man United ahead with a scissors kick but then again, to no avail as Heaton again thwarted their attempts to go up.

Mata and Ibrahimovic continued their assault on the goal and hit the post twice in succession as Mata’s shot hit the post and the rebound header by Ibrahimovic struck the crossbar and was over.

Things went from bad to worse fro Man United as Ander Herrera was shown a red card and they were down to 10 men, even though they had been the far better team in the contest and had dominated most of the game throughout.

Further chances flew in for Ibra and Rooney in the dying moments of the game but they were looped over the bar as Man United failed to make any statement against a lowly opposition. Heaton, the Burnley goalkeeper had the best game and was undoubtedly the man of the match and it was the misfiring United frontline to blame.

Burnley walked with a valuable point.

Till next week, folks!
