The modern-day swimsuit has been said to cover “everything about a woman except her maiden name”. Yet it too had its own journey to cover before it came to be the figure-hugging two-piece or one-piece it is today.

Actress Brigitte Bardot was one of the first actresses to feature the swimsuit in her French film “Manina, the girl in the bikini” in 1952. It was then considered improper to show the navel. From then on, it traveled from athletic designs like tankinis, tops, and bottoms to wild prints and neon accessories that revealed more of the back.
