The K-pop world has been shaken with the news breaking out that solo artist Hyuna (Kim Hyun-ah) and Pentagon member E’Dawn ( Kim Hyo-jong) have been removed/kicked out of their agency Cube Entertainment.

The news broke when a statement by the South Korean company Cube Entertainment said that,

“This is Cube Entertainment.

Cube Entertainment has officially decided to remove our artists HyunA and E’Dawn from the label.

When managing our artists, the company has worked with faith and trust in each other as the main priority.

After numerous discussions, it is with great pain that we have come to the conclusion that it will prove difficult for us to rebuild the broken loyalty and trust between these two artists, HyunA and E’Dawn; so their removal has been decided.

We sincerely thank fans who have been with the two artists all this time.

Thank you”.

This comes in light of the dating news that was revealed recently where Hyuna and E’Dawn admitted to being in a relationship for the past two years.

Since then, they received a lot of backlash from their fans and the audience in general and E’Dawn really had to suffer in his career as he was not seen participating in the promotional activities for his band PENTAGON.

Not only that, the company also cancelled the promotions for Triple H’s new album Retro Futurism.

Hyuna and E’Dawn were artists under Cube Entertainment, following their own individual careers as well as being in another mixed member band called Triple H that also had Hui from Pentagon in the group.

Dating Really That Bad?

Hyuna came out with the news of her and E’Dawn dating right after Cube Entertainment denied the rumours in an honest Instagram post.

Her post read that, “I really wanted to be honest. For the fans who always support me and watch over me, I want to work hard on stage with a happy heart, with nothing to hide, as I always have.”

Hyuna for that matter is a pretty established artist in South Korea and worldwide and has been with Cube Entertainment for an entire decade since joining in 2008. She is considered to be one of the most successful act of the company.

Previously a member of the Wonder Girls group, she rose to fame with Cube’s 4Minute group from 2009-16 and then began her own solo career. Her singles like ‘Red’, ‘Ice Cream’, were popular with the audiences and her recent release of ‘Lip and Hip’ has also gotten rave reviews.

She is also known for appearing in ‘Gangnam Style’ of Psy and also doing a duet with him called ‘Oppa Is Just My Style’.

Even E’Dawn, though apparently still a rookie in the music industry, had gained a decent following as Pentagon’s singer-songwriter, his compositions were especially appreciated by the audience. The band’s new single ‘Naughty Boy’ was actually co-written by him only.

Cube Backtracking?

After the immense backlash that the company got on social media, the company apparently backtracked on their earlier statement and posted about how the negotiations for their stay were still on.

Fans across Twitter and other social media started worldwide trends and hashtags like ‘CubeIsCancelledParty’ and more in anger at the unfair treatment that they believe is being given to the artists.

As reported by Star News though, the company has changed their stance on HyunA and E’Dawn and also said that the removal of the two idols is not confirmed yet and that the company is still discussing what further action to take regarding them.

Even the head of Cube Entertainment, Shin Dae Nam, stated that, “HyunA and E’Dawn’s removal from the agency is a matter that is still being discussed and nothing is finalized. We believe that the artists’ opinion on the matter is important as well, and this is a matter in which we need to hear from them before making a final decision.”

He further said, “Their removal is not a decided matter,” and that, “We will be holding a board of directors meeting next week to discuss this matter.”

Also, the change of mind could have come from the fact that Cube’s stocks dropped drastically after news of HyunA and E’Dawn being kicked out of the company surfaced.

The company has apparently seen a drop of almost 6.57% and to being just 2,775 KRW which is essentially $2.48.

The entire thing is made even worse when as per reports, HyunA and E’Dawn were not even notified about their removal from the company by the officials. Instead, allegedly they got this news from articles and online media.

People are also angry since HyunA for being such a successful artist, stuck by Cube Entertainment all this while, and as per fans online there was a time when HyunA was one of the few acts that was keeping the company financially stable.

Further news is still awaited as to what the final decision will be.
