Class 12 board examinations are over and students who aspire to pursue their undergraduate studies from the prestigious colleges of Delhi University are in a frenzy.

Most students are living with stressful mixed feelings about either trying for colleges with written entrance exams or trusting their board marks to surpass the cut-offs of the college of their choice.

Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies is a prestigious college of Delhi University, for students who want to pursue professional management studies.

SSCBS is an off-campus college and it was shifted from Vivek Vihar to Rohini Sector 16, last year.

Unlike most DU colleges which have old campuses, SSCBS offers a newly built, white, eight-floored building with a corporate feel.

SSCBS campus

SSCBS offers 2 primary 3-year courses:

  • Bachelor in Management Studies BMS
  • Bachelor in Financial Investment and Analysis BBA (FIA)

The college also offers a course in B.Sc. Computer Science, which is a 4-year course.

Quotas, Scholarships & Eligibility

The entrance procedure for SSCBS is slightly different from other DU colleges which have a system of board marks cut-off lists. SSCBS does not have a system of ECA or sports quotas in place, although quotas based on caste and reservations for persons of disability are available.

Scholarships are also available for students who can give a proof of their family income being below a certain required amount. Students from all streams are eligible to apply for BMS and BBA (FIA).

Admission Process

To get an admission into SSCBS, you need to appear for the Joint Aptitude Test (JAT) which is a comprehensive exam conducted over 2 hours.

Candidates need to attempt 120 questions based on Quantitative Ability, Reasoning and Analytical Ability, General English, and Business and General Awareness.

3 marks will be allotted for every correct answer and there will be a negative marking of 1 mark for every incorrect answer.

To appear for the written exam, students must have their JAT Admit Cards in place at least 10 days before the exam. Online portals can be accessed through the official DU website.

The result of the written examination comes out within a month of the exam date, and the list of the candidates who are shortlisted for the interview and group discussion process is released on the official DU website.

The interviews are interactive and non-technical.

About Courses

Candidates are also required to fill in their course preferences in their admission form. Students who are yet to make a decision about their specialisation and want to go into general management studies, generally opt for BMS.

In their 3rd year, BMS students can choose to either specialise in Finance, Human Resource or Marketing.

Students who are sure about their desire to pursue finance, generally opt for BFIA, which is an exclusive course on financial investment offered by 2 colleges around the country, Amity University being the other.

BMS and BBA (FIA) share similarities with B. Com but the courses have different subjects and exam papers. While B. Com is more concentrated on the accounting aspect, BMS concentrates more on the management aspect of an organisation. BBA (FIA) and BMS offer almost the same subjects in the first year.

Good luck for your admission in SSCBS, see you around college!
