Recently, we have seen celebrities and other people asking guests in their wedding to donate the gifts they receive to charity, sometimes specify the gifts they want or tell guests not to give any presents at all.

But one wedding card which is doing rounds on the internet, bears the message: “Our gift is your vote for Modi in 2019 Lok Sabha elections!” along with BJP’s party logo on both sides.

We have seen politicians use all types of techniques to gather votes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections this year, but the popularity of Narendra Modi amongst the masses has just made BJP’s work slightly easier.

Wedding or Publicity?

While the above message is seen printed on a wedding slated for Tuesday, 1st January in Surat, another wedding card with a similar appeal to guests, mentions a wedding of Arjun Prasad to be held on Sunday, 10th February in Manglore.

The incidents came in the aftermath of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s massive defeat in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, and Rajasthan. 2018 Assembly polls were considered to be the semi-final battle in the run-up of 2019 general elections.

If the Internet is to be believed, some couples not only marry to show their love for each other but also for their favorite political party and leader.

The Internet has been buzzing with trolls calling this a cheap propaganda and questioning ‘bhakts’ about their desperate measures during desperate times.

Although there is nothing wrong in this practice of asking people to vote for PM Modi instead of giving gifts, this indicates that there is a feeling amongst the BJP supporters that the party is in a hostile position prior to the Lok Sabha elections.

There have been other instances too

In the past, we have come across other instances of politically motivated requests being made through wedding invitations.

A man named Bhushan Branson Tweeted an image of his wedding card which was printed with the schemes and achievements of the Modi government.

He tagged PM Modi and wrote, “Sir. With my wedding invitation card, I am trying to explain the lot of achievement, schemes by Modi Govt. & Urging all invitees get the use. Hand to hand helping them to get the max benefit. I believe “We have to take care of Modi, Modi will take care of the nation.”

In 2017, a marriage invitation card, with the famous slogans of Modi government printed in the place of verses, had gone viral on social media.

The opposition to the BJP, the Congress party also had their fair share of publicity when a similar wedding card had gone viral on social media in June last year.

Not only this, but in the past Modi’s supporters have also put the Swachh Bharat logo on their wedding cards, something that PM Modi took to Twitter to share.

PM Modi kicked off his 2019 campaign today in Gurdaspur, with the stage set for an intense fight coming up before the elections. Modi supporters are leaving no stone unturned to make him return to power in 2019.
